UNCOMFORTABLE
POSTURE PROJECT
2014 - 2016
UNCOMFORTABLE POSTURE PROJECT (2014–2016) explores the concept of “frame” across various contexts that shape our daily lives—habitual behaviours in specific situations, paradigms for perceiving and interpreting circumstances, and the spatial-temporal structures inherent in moving-image media. This project examines the relationship between image and choreography through bodies refracted by these frames.
Nothing is ever truly still. In other words, everything can become a subject in motion, continuously engaging with others and the surrounding environment. This project focuses on wriggles resulting from the sense of distance.
Each moment, each encounter, becomes potential material for further movement. Paused and captured postures—typical and habitual gestures in uncomfortable situations—serve as starting points for subsequent movement. Ranging from drawings to film, the project investigates the possibilities of choreography that unfold through these frames.

In 1950s Korean cinema, a peculiar tension emerges where the gestures of actors intersect with the gaze of the camera. It reflects the collision between the Korean context of a floor-sitting lifestyle and the influx of the American film industry. This work unfolds this encounter in the form of an audiovisual essay.
